Chatra (Jharkhand), July 10 : The body of a 19-year-old woman, who had been missing since Monday, was recovered from a well in Siddki village under Pratappur police station limits in Jharkhand’s Chatra district on Thursday, police said.
The deceased was identified as Shanti Kumari, daughter of Mahendra Bharti, a resident of Siddki village. According to family members, she had gone missing on Monday, following which relatives searched for her in nearby villages and among acquaintances, but no trace of her was found.
Villagers spotted a body floating in the well on Thursday morning and alerted the police. A team from Pratappur police station reached the spot and, with the assistance of local residents, recovered the body.
After completing legal formalities, the body was sent to the district Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Pratappur police station in-charge Alok Ranjan Chaudhary said the body appeared to be three to four days old and was badly decomposed due to prolonged submersion in water.
He said preliminary questioning suggested the case could be linked to a love affair, but stressed that no conclusion had been reached so far.
“All angles, including technical evidence, are being examined to determine the cause,” Chaudhary said.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.
