Ranchi, July 9: Police have launched an investigation into the death of an auto driver, Suraj Nayak, who was allegedly under stress over vehicle loan instalment payments, even as his family and local residents staged a protest outside the Dhurwa police station on Wednesday demanding justice.
The protesters, led largely by women, surrounded the police station for nearly an hour and urged the police to take stringent action against those responsible for the driver’s death.
Responding to the demonstrators, the Officer in-Charge of Dhurwa police station assured them that the investigation would be carried out impartially and that those found guilty would face action.
“The culprits will not be spared under any circumstances,” the officer told the protesters.
As part of the investigation, police are examining the circumstances leading to Nayak’s death and have begun collecting the call detail records (CDRs) of the deceased and a finance company agent. Investigators are trying to determine the frequency of communication between the agent and Nayak before the incident.
The victim’s family and local residents alleged that Nayak had been under severe mental stress due to instalment-related issues and demanded strict action against those found responsible.
