Jamshedpur, July 8: A youth was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Jamshedpur on Wednesday, triggering tension at Tata Main Hospital (TMH) and prompting heavy police deployment, officials said.
The deceased, identified as Rahul Bachcha, a resident of Gurudwara Basti in Mango, was attacked near Munshi Mohalla on Post Office Road in the Dimna Road area. He sustained critical gunshot injuries and was rushed to TMH, where he was declared dead during treatment.
News of Rahul’s death led to a large gathering of family members and supporters at the hospital, following which police deployed additional personnel, including the Quick Response Team (QRT), to maintain law and order.
Senior officers, including DSP Manoj Thakur and the officer-in-charge of Bistupur police station, visited the hospital and supervised the investigation.
Police said a probe has been launched to identify the attackers and establish the motive behind the killing. No arrests have been made so far, while investigators are examining all possible angles and scanning CCTV footage from the area.
Preliminary findings indicate that the murder may have been linked to a long-standing personal rivalry and an alleged love triangle involving another youth, identified as Shabbe. Eyewitnesses claimed Rahul was surrounded by 10–15 armed assailants, who allegedly attacked him with sharp weapons before opening fire and fleeing the spot.
“Efforts are underway to trace the assailants and bring them to justice at the earliest,” police said, adding that the investigation is continuing from all possible angles.
Authorities said raids have been intensified to nab the accused and assured that those responsible would be arrested soon.
The killing has once again raised concerns over the recent spurt in violent crimes and shooting incidents in Jamshedpur, with residents expressing alarm over the deteriorating law and order situation.
