Ranchi, Jul 6: A petrol pump owner in Ranchi has approached the police after allegedly receiving extortion demands of ₹2 crore along with threats to his life, family, and business establishments.
According to a complaint lodged at Kanke Police Station, Ashutosh Kumar Singh (59), a resident of Block Chowk on Kumar Bagh Road in Kanke, alleged that he received a phone call from an international number on the night of July 3.
During the call, the caller allegedly demanded ₹2 crore within 10 days and threatened to kill him if the money was not paid.Singh stated that he blocked the number after the call. However, on July 5, he allegedly received a threatening WhatsApp message from another international number.
In his complaint, Singh alleged that the message demanded ₹2 crore within one week, followed by a monthly payment of ₹10 lakh, claiming that the payments were necessary to ensure the safety of his petrol pump and land-related business in Ranchi.
The complainant further alleged that the message threatened bomb and gun attacks on his petrol pump, residence, and newly constructed warehouse if the demand was not met. It also allegedly warned that his Fortuner SUV would be “stained with blood” and threatened to kill his son, who is currently at RIMS, if the message was ignored.
According to the complaint, the WhatsApp message mentioned the names Rahul Dubey, Aman Sahu, Mayank Singh, and Prakash Shukla, stating that the extortion demand was being made in the name of the Rahul Dubey gang.
A copy of the message has reportedly been submitted to the police as evidence.Singh also alleged that his nephew had been occupying his house for about a month and claimed that he had received similar threatening messages whenever he asked him to vacate the property.
Police said an FIR has been registered, and an investigation into the allegations is underway.The allegations are based on the complainant’s police complaint. The authenticity of the claims and the identity of those behind the alleged threats are yet to be established through the ongoing investigation.
