Ranchi/Dhanbad, Mar 20: The Ministry of Railways has initiated a feasibility study to develop Talgaria railway station in Jharkhand as a satellite terminal, aiming to ease congestion at Bokaro Steel City station and enhance rail operations in the busy Dhanbad–Bokaro industrial corridor.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed that “the process of developing Talgadia station as a satellite terminal has begun” and that feasibility is currently being assessed.
Located on the Bokaro–Adra section of the South Eastern Railway, around 30 km from Bokaro, Talgaria station holds strategic importance due to its proximity to key industrial zones, despite handling relatively low passenger traffic at present. The station currently has six railway lines—two main and four loop lines—and four high-level platforms, catering to around 200 passengers daily with four train services.
The proposed development is part of broader efforts to strengthen rail capacity in the region. Railway authorities have already completed doubling of the 38-km Talgaria–Bokaro North Cabin section, while work is underway on the 12.5-km Bhojudih–Talgaria stretch. These upgrades are expected to significantly improve network capacity and operational efficiency.
In recent years, passenger amenities at the station have also been upgraded, including improved platforms and shelters, a booking office with waiting hall, drinking water and sanitation facilities, seating arrangements, a foot overbridge, and ramps for Divyangjan passengers.
The issue was raised in Parliament by Dhanbad MP Dhulu Mahto, who подчеркed that developing Talgaria as a satellite station would help reduce congestion at Bokaro Steel City station. He noted that better utilisation of the Talgaria–Tupkadih line could minimise engine reversals and streamline train operations, making services “more smooth” while improving passenger facilities.
The proposed satellite terminal is expected to play a key role in decongesting the Bokaro rail hub and supporting growing passenger and freight demand in the region.
