New Delhi, Dec 23: The Election Commission (EC) on Tuesday released the draft electoral rolls for Chhattisgarh following an extensive Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, officials said.
The revision was carried out by the Chhattisgarh election machinery in line with directions from the Centre, involving a detailed door-to-door verification drive across the state. During the exercise, officials identified lakhs of entries that were missing, unverified, duplicated, or belonged to deceased voters, according to the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Chhattisgarh.
Based on the verification data, the draft voter list has been published on December 23, while the final electoral rolls are scheduled to be released on February 21, 2026, the CEO said.
As per the revised schedule, citizens can file claims and objections from December 23, 2025, to January 22, 2026. Hearings related to these claims and objections will continue until February 14, 2026, providing voters an opportunity to correct errors or add missing names before the final publication.
The voter list revision process in Chhattisgarh began on November 4 and concluded on December 19, with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) conducting house-to-house verification of voter details.
The SIR is being conducted across 12 states and Union Territories, leading to significant changes in electoral rolls nationwide. Tamil Nadu reported the highest number of deletions, with over 97 lakh names removed from the draft rolls. West Bengal followed with around 58 lakh deletions, while Rajasthan recorded a reduction of nearly 44 lakh voters.
Puducherry and Goa each reported deletions of just over one lakh voters, while Lakshadweep saw a marginal decline of about 1,600 electors.
Draft electoral rolls for Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands were released on December 23. Draft rolls for West Bengal, Rajasthan, Goa, Puducherry, and Lakshadweep were published earlier on December 16.
