Beijing, May 8 – A robot at a Chinese factory reportedly malfunctioned during a test, triggering safety concerns after it appeared to lunge toward a worker in an incident captured on CCTV and widely circulated on social media.
The footage, which surfaced on platforms including Instagram and X, shows the humanoid robot suspended from a crane, becoming unexpectedly active as two workers operate nearby. The robot suddenly moves its arms and legs in what appears to be an aggressive manner, startling the workers.
One of the employees can be seen running away as the machine seemingly pursues him. The situation was brought under control when workers shut off the robot’s power supply, avoiding any injuries.
The video has prompted renewed scrutiny over the safety protocols surrounding artificial intelligence and robotics testing. Users on social media expressed concern about the potential hazards posed by autonomous machines in workplace environments.
Chinese authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident, and the name of the factory where it occurred has not been disclosed.
The incident adds to a growing global debate over AI safety, particularly as robots and intelligent systems become increasingly integrated into manufacturing and daily life.
