Student protests continue as CID raids JSSC office over exam irregularities

Ranchi, Aug 17: The Jharkhand Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Monday conducted searches at the office of the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) as part of its investigation into alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations, an official said.CID Additional Director General Manoj Kaushik said the searches were being carried out in connection with alleged irregularities reported in various examinations conducted in the state.The action comes as job aspirants continue their protest in Jharkhand, with the agitation entering its 24th day.

The protesters have been raising concerns over the fairness and transparency of recruitment examinations and demanding action against those allegedly responsible.The CID has so far arrested 20 people in connection with the investigation, including former Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) chairman L Khiangte.As part of the probe, investigators are examining evidence collected during the investigation and comparing OMR carbon copies with relevant examination records.

The exercise is aimed at determining whether any manipulation or other irregularities took place during the recruitment process.The agency said the investigation remains ongoing and further action would be taken in accordance with the law on the basis of evidence gathered.Meanwhile, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) had organised protests in several cities on August 13, alleging irregularities and paper leaks in JPSC and JSSC examinations.

The student organisation demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry, strict action against those found responsible and measures to restore confidence in the state’s recruitment examination system.The ABVP also called for cancellation of the JSSC Combined Graduate Level (CGL) examination and fresh examinations wherever serious irregularities are established.

Protests were reported in several cities, including New Delhi, Lucknow, Kolkata, Guwahati, Jaipur, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Raipur, Bhubaneswar, Varanasi and Prayagraj.The latest CID action is expected to provide investigators with additional examination-related records as the probe into the allegations continues.
