Ranchi, Sept 25: Heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds disrupted normal life in several parts of Jharkhand on Friday, affecting transport, electricity supply and educational institutions.In Ranchi, a large tree fell on a school bus in the AG More area during the morning while students were travelling to school.
Police said all the students were safely evacuated and no injuries were reported.Doranda police officials said the tree came down on the vehicle while it was carrying students. Rescue efforts were carried out immediately and the children were taken to safety.
Several schools in Ranchi also announced holidays in view of the adverse weather conditions.The continuous rain and strong winds affected electricity supply in parts of the state capital. Trees and power poles were reported to have fallen at several locations, damaging power lines and causing prolonged outages.
Electricity department teams were deployed to affected areas to repair damaged infrastructure and restore supply, officials said.Jharkhand has been witnessing rainfall since September 23 under the influence of a deep depression.
The weather system intensified its impact over the state on Thursday night, bringing heavy rain and strong winds to several areas.Abhishek Anand, Deputy Director of the Ranchi Meteorological Centre, said the weather system was moving towards Chhattisgarh and rainfall activity in Jharkhand was expected to weaken by Friday evening or Saturday.
Weather conditions are likely to improve further from September 27, according to the meteorological centre.Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious during periods of strong winds and heavy rainfall, particularly in areas vulnerable to falling trees, waterlogging and power-related hazards.
