Ranchi, Sep 20: Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar on Sunday extended his greetings to the people of the state on the occasion of Karam Puja, describing the tribal festival as a reflection of the deep bond between tribal communities and nature.
Addressing a Karam festival eve programme in Bero, Ranchi, Gangwar said the traditional worship of the Karam tree branch, along with community singing and dancing, represents an important part of Jharkhand’s rich cultural heritage.
The Governor said folk traditions associated with Karam festival convey messages of good deeds, hard work, brotherhood and social harmony. He noted that living in harmony with nature has traditionally been an integral part of tribal life.
Referring to challenges such as climate change and environmental imbalance, Gangwar said the festival’s emphasis on respecting and protecting nature has gained greater relevance. He said its traditions can inspire people to use natural resources responsibly and work towards preserving the environment for future generations.
The Governor also underlined the importance of protecting Jharkhand’s languages, folk songs, dances, traditional arts and indigenous knowledge.
He urged young people to remain connected with their cultural roots and contribute to preserving and promoting local languages and traditions.Gangwar said modern education and technological knowledge, when combined with cultural awareness, can further strengthen the state’s social and cultural identity.
He also stressed the need to give greater attention to education, healthcare and nutrition for the overall development of tribal communities.
He called upon intellectuals and social workers to share their knowledge and experience with rural communities and disadvantaged sections of society.
Highlighting Jharkhand’s cultural diversity, the Governor said people belonging to different religions, communities, languages and cultural traditions live together in the state.
He said festivals play an important role in bringing people closer, strengthening social harmony and reinforcing India’s tradition of unity in diversity.
