Ranchi, Sep 24: The Jharkhand Urban Local Bodies Workers’ Union will stage a demonstration at the Labour Commissioner’s Office here on September 25 over a range of demands, including a wage hike, regularisation of contractual workers and payment of bonus before Dussehra.
The rally will begin from near the MECON Gate at 3 pm, according to union president Bhawan Singh.
The workers are demanding an increase in wages from Rs 14,000 to Rs 18,000 and regularisation of daily-wage and MTS contractual workers who have completed more than 10 years of service.
The union has also sought payment of bonus before Dussehra, along with one month’s salary from A2Z and all eligible leave and other benefits as mandated by law.
Issuance of salary slips and identity cards to workers is another demand raised by the union.
The union has alleged that the Labour Commissioner has not issued strict orders regarding mandatory and legally payable leave-related demands.
“These demands fall within the workers’ rights and the legal framework,” the union said.
It also maintained that the Ranchi Municipal Corporation Administrator is responsible for ensuring implementation of the demands within the legal framework.
The union has warned of a strike during the Durga Puja period if its demands are not accepted.
“The workers will go on strike during the Durga Puja period of Dussehra if their demands are not accepted,” the union said.
Singh said the date of the proposed strike would be announced on September 25.
“The date of the proposed strike will be announced on September 25 itself,” he said.
The union has also appealed to media organisations to send reporters and photographers to cover the demonstration.
