New Delhi, Aug 13: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Thursday staged protests across several cities over alleged irregularities and paper leaks in Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) examinations, demanding a CBI probe and strict action against those responsible.
In New Delhi, students and ABVP workers demonstrated outside Jharkhand Bhawan, seeking concrete measures from the Jharkhand government to restore transparency and credibility in the recruitment examination system.
Similar protests were held in Lucknow, Kolkata, Guwahati, Agartala, Jaipur, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Surat, Gorakhpur, Jodhpur, Kota, Raipur, Bhubaneswar, Varanasi and Prayagraj, besides several university campuses, the organisation said.
The ABVP demanded an impartial and high-level CBI investigation into the alleged examination irregularities and paper leaks. It also sought immediate cancellation of the JSSC-CGL examination and fresh examinations wherever the integrity of the tests has been questioned.
ABVP National General Secretary Virendra Singh Solanki said the organisation wanted the entire matter investigated by the CBI and demanded cancellation and re-conduct of examinations where serious doubts had arisen over their integrity.
“Transparency and credibility in the examination system are directly linked to the future of students,” Solanki said.
“The government should take immediate positive action on the students’ demands and ensure necessary institutional reforms in the examination system,” he said.
The organisation also raised concerns over repeated changes in the state-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT), claiming that the changes had raised questions about the credibility of the probe.
The protests come amid an ongoing student agitation in Jharkhand over alleged irregularities in JPSC and JSSC recruitment examinations. The ABVP alleged that students participating in protests on August 10 and 11 were subjected to lathi-charge, water cannons and arrests.
ABVP National Secretary Aditya Takiyar said students in Jharkhand were fighting for their rights and future and asserted that the organisation would continue its “democratic and peaceful struggle” until appropriate action was taken on their demands.
The organisation also called for institutional reforms in the recruitment examination system to ensure transparency, accountability and credibility.
ABVP Delhi unit secretary Sarthak Sharma said the protests in Delhi and other parts of the country reflected nationwide solidarity with the students protesting in Jharkhand.
He urged the government to deal sensitively with issues concerning students’ future and ensure a fair investigation into the alleged irregularities.
The nationwide demonstrations have added to mounting pressure on the Jharkhand government as the student agitation over alleged recruitment examination irregularities continues in Ranchi.
