Ranchi, Sept 22: Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar on Tuesday interacted with international students and researchers pursuing higher education and research in India under the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) at Lok Bhavan here.
During the interaction, Gangwar highlighted India’s long-standing tradition as a centre of learning and recalled the historical significance of institutions such as Takshashila, Nalanda and Vikramashila, which attracted learners from different parts of the world.
The Governor said the presence of students and researchers from countries including Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Iraq and nations in Africa and the Middle East reflects the growing academic and cultural connections between India and other countries.
Referring to the principle of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’, Gangwar said education and dialogue can help strengthen mutual understanding among nations.
He also highlighted the values of peace, compassion, non-violence and harmony associated with India’s philosophical traditions.The Governor stressed the importance of international cooperation and referred to India’s engagement with the global community, including the 18th BRICS Summit held in New Delhi under India’s chairship.
Speaking about Jharkhand, Gangwar encouraged the visiting students to explore the state’s tribal heritage, cultural traditions and natural landscapes. He highlighted its forests, waterfalls, hills and mineral resources, as well as its historical association with tribal leader and freedom fighter Birsa Munda and other figures of the freedom movement.
Gangwar urged the students to use their time in India not only for academic pursuits but also to understand the country’s history, cultural diversity, traditions and democratic values.
He said international students could serve as links between India and their respective countries by sharing their experiences after returning home.
The Governor expressed hope that the students would take positive memories of their time in India and share their experiences with their families, friends and communities, thereby contributing to greater understanding and friendship between the countries.
