Ranchi, Sept 17: The Central Mine Planning and Design Institute (CMPDI) on Thursday launched the 2026 edition of the Swachhta Hi Seva campaign at its headquarters here, with emphasis on public participation, youth involvement and sustainable waste management.

The cleanliness campaign will continue till October 2 and is being organised under the theme “Swachhata Mein Sahbhag, Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat”, highlighting the role of collective participation in achieving cleaner and healthier surroundings.

The campaign began with a Swachhata Pledge at CMPDI headquarters and its regional and field establishments. Employees, students and other participants were encouraged to adopt responsible sanitation and waste-disposal practices.

CMPDI said the campaign is being implemented through five broad areas, including cleanliness of identified public places, youth-oriented awareness programmes, safety and dignity of sanitation workers, community participation and initiatives linking cleanliness with economic and environmental benefits.

At the CMPDI headquarters in Ranchi, schoolchildren and young participants joined a cleanliness drive and were sensitised about hygiene, proper waste disposal and the provisions of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026.

Swachhata Pledge programmes were also conducted at Regional Institute-IV in Nagpur and Regional Institute-VII in Bhubaneswar. Employees posted at the Talcher, Gopalpur and Kosala drilling camps also participated in the campaign.

During the fortnight, CMPDI plans to organise plantation programmes under “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”, cleaning of water bodies and creative initiatives such as “Kabaad Se Kala” and “Kabaad Se Jugaad”.

The programmes are aimed at encouraging reuse, recycling and better utilisation of waste materials. The institute said activities would be conducted across its headquarters, regional institutes and field establishments, with greater involvement of employees, youth, school students and other stakeholders.

The campaign will conclude on October 2, observed as Swachh Bharat Diwas, with CMPDI seeking to reinforce cleanliness and environmental responsibility as part of its institutional culture.
