New Delhi, September 10: The Supreme Court Collegium has approved the appointment of three Judicial Officers as judges of the Jharkhand High Court.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Supreme Court Collegium held on September 10, 2026, according to an official statement issued by the Collegium.

The Judicial Officers recommended for appointment are Manoj Prasad, Akhil Kumar and Ram Sharma.

The Collegium considered the appointments as part of the process of strengthening the judicial strength of the Jharkhand High Court. The recommendations will now be forwarded for further processing by the Centre in accordance with the established procedure for appointment of High Court judges.

The appointment of Judicial Officers directly to the High Court is part of the constitutional mechanism through which judges are selected and appointed to the higher judiciary. Following the Collegium’s recommendation, the proposal is processed by the Union Government before the appointments are formally notified.

The addition of the three judges is expected to augment the strength of the Jharkhand High Court and contribute to the disposal of pending cases. High Courts across the country regularly face the challenge of vacancies and mounting caseloads, making timely appointments important for the effective functioning of the judiciary.

With the Collegium’s approval, the names of Manoj Prasad, Akhil Kumar and Ram Sharma will proceed through the next stages of the appointment process. The final appointment will take effect after the required government notification and completion of the prescribed formalities.

The Supreme Court Collegium, headed by the Chief Justice of India, makes recommendations for appointments and transfers of judges to the Supreme Court and High Courts. Its recommendations are subsequently processed by the Union Government under the existing constitutional procedure.
