Ranchi, September 12: District authorities on Saturday launched a major enforcement drive against illegal mining and unauthorised stone-crushing activities in Ranchi district, taking action against 19 stone-crushing units in the Chutupalu and Ormanjhi areas.
The joint operation was conducted in accordance with directions issued by the Jharkhand High Court and involved revenue and police officials.Officials said eight stone-crushing units were sealed after their Consent to Operate (CTO) permissions had expired.
Another 11 units, allegedly operating without the required authorisation, were demolished during the drive.The action is part of efforts by the district administration to curb unauthorised mining and stone-crushing activities and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
A valid Consent to Operate is required for regulated industrial activities, subject to applicable environmental and pollution-control norms.
Units operating after their permission expires can face enforcement action.Authorities said inspections and action against illegal mining and unauthorised stone-crushing operations would continue in the district.
The latest crackdown also underlines the administration’s efforts to ensure that mining and related industrial activities are conducted only after obtaining the necessary statutory approvals.
