New Delhi, Dec 13:
A 50-year-old property dealer was shot at multiple times by bike-borne assailants in east Delhi’s Shahdara area on Thursday night, police said.
The victim, identified as Jogendra alias Jogendar Rathore, was returning home from work and was seated on the pillion of a motorcycle when three assailants, riding two scooters, opened fire on him from behind in a residential lane of Balbir Nagar, they said.
CCTV footage of the incident showed the attackers firing several rounds at Rathore, following which he fell off the motorcycle. The assailants fled the spot soon after the attack, police added.
Police said they received a PCR call at around 10.31 pm from the victim’s wife, Nisha, who informed them that her husband had been shot and was being taken to a hospital.
Rathore sustained three bullet injuries in his back and was admitted to a hospital, where his condition is stated to be stable and he is undergoing treatment, they said.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the attack may have been carried out due to personal enmity, police said, adding that Rathore is a property dealer by profession and also runs a small dairy.
Police further said that the victim has a previous criminal record, including a murder charge. Multiple teams have been formed to identify and trace the accused.
