Jamshedpur, September 18: A scooter-borne youth, who snatched purses from two women within 15 minutes on Tuesday night, has been arrested by Golmuri police, which cracked the case within 24 hours.
According to police, the accused, identified as Shubham Kumar, son of Shiv Shankar Rai of Vidyapatinagar, targeted two women at different locations within a span of just 15 minutes. He was arrested on Wednesday in a joint operation by Golmuri and Sidgora police, and his red Duet scooter (JH05BX-2164) was also seized.
The first incident took place around 8:15 pm near the NML Flat Gate, where Shubham snatched the purse of Rupali Mahato, who was returning from Sakchi. Minutes later, the culprit struck again near Golmuri Church, snatching the handbag of Komal Kumari of Birsanagar.

During the press briefing at the SSP office, City SP Kumar Shivashish said that the police recovered both women’s belongings from the accused. The recovered items included two pink handbags, a Vivo mobile phone, two pairs of bangles, a pen drive, ₹2,750 in cash, a blue helmet, three debit cards, and women’s cosmetics.
The operation was led by Golmuri OC Sanjay Suman and Sidgora OC Virendra Kumar, with support from sub-inspectors Vikas Kumar, Gaurav Singh, Subhash Rajak, Rafiq Alam, and other personnel.
Police added that Shubham is being interrogated, and his involvement in more similar cases cannot be ruled out.
