Ranchi, Oct 27: Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar on Tuesday urged child journalists to identify issues in their surroundings, ask relevant questions and take constructive initiatives to address social challenges, saying their voices could become a powerful force for positive change.

Addressing the ‘Voices of Change Conclave 2026’, organised by UNICEF at Hotel Radisson Blu in Ranchi, the Governor said children who raised social concerns and expressed their views could help bring the challenges faced by marginalised and voiceless children to public attention.

Gangwar highlighted persistent challenges such as child marriage, child labour, malnutrition, lack of access to education, violence against children and the adverse effects of climate change. He said tackling these issues required not only government intervention but also changes in societal attitudes and behaviour.

Emphasising the responsibilities of young journalists, the Governor urged them to verify facts before sharing news or information and to remain sensitive to the dignity and privacy of the people concerned.

He stressed that listening to children was not enough; their concerns must also be taken seriously and followed by appropriate action. Every child, he said, deserved quality education, adequate nutrition, healthcare, a safe environment and the opportunity to grow with dignity.

The Governor said ensuring these rights was a collective responsibility of the government, administration, educational institutions, families and society. He called upon teachers and parents to create an environment in which children felt encouraged to ask questions, express their opinions and participate in finding solutions to problems.

He also emphasised that schools should go beyond imparting textbook knowledge and serve as centres for developing sensitivity, critical thinking, creativity and leadership among children.

Referring to the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat @ 2047’, Gangwar said the country’s progress depended on ensuring that children and young people were educated, healthy, skilled and confident. Expanding opportunities for education, innovation and skill development was essential to building a brighter future for the nation, he added.

Encouraging the young participants to pursue their ambitions with determination, the Governor urged them to preserve their curiosity and sensitivity while setting high goals and working consistently towards achieving them.

He encouraged the children to adopt a mindset of determination, saying they should believe in their goals, work hard and remain confident in their ability to succeed. He expressed confidence that their dedication, perseverance and resolve would help them achieve success and contribute meaningfully to society.
