Ramgarh, Sep 23: Persistent rain failed to affect the enthusiasm of rescue teams participating in the 40th Regional Mine Rescue Competition-2026 being held at the Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) Mine Rescue Centre in Naisarai, Ramgarh.
The four-day competition entered its third day on Wednesday, with participating teams taking part in a series of practical and technical events designed to assess their preparedness for emergencies in underground mines.Events conducted during the day included rescue and recovery exercises, first-aid tests and statutory assessments.
The activities focused on participants’ ability to respond quickly during emergencies, work as a coordinated team and follow prescribed safety and rescue procedures.The rescue and recovery exercises provided an opportunity for teams to demonstrate their technical skills, coordination and readiness while working under challenging conditions.
A judging panel comprising experts from the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS) and CCL is overseeing the events and assessing the performance of the participating teams against prescribed procedures and standards.The competition is aimed at strengthening the preparedness and professional capabilities of mine rescue personnel who may be required to respond to accidents and other emergencies in underground mines.
Teams from 11 CCL operational areas — Barkasayal, B&K, Argada, Kuju, Hazaribagh, Dhori, Kathara, Magadh-Sanghmitra, N.K., Amrapali-Chandraguptha and Piparwar — are participating in the competition.
Teams from Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL) and JMS (Churi) are also taking part in the event.Organisers said the competition provides rescue personnel with an opportunity to test their technical knowledge, decision-making abilities, teamwork and adherence to safety practices in simulated emergency situations.
Despite the adverse weather conditions, the teams continued to participate with discipline and commitment, demonstrating their preparedness to operate in demanding circumstances.
The four-day competition will conclude on September 24 with the remaining activities, followed by a closing and prize distribution ceremony. Teams and participants who perform well in different events will be recognised during the concluding programme.
