RANCHI, Sep 23 : Jharkhand’s capital is set for a major urban infrastructure push with a proposed investment of around ₹1,795 crore covering redevelopment of commercial areas, modernisation of bus terminals, construction of a corporate office complex and development of an interstate bus terminal.
The projects have been prepared by the Jharkhand Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (JUDCO) under the state Urban Development Department. The proposed plan comprises eight projects aimed at improving commercial infrastructure, public transport facilities and government office infrastructure in Ranchi.
One of the largest projects is the redevelopment of Sainik Market Mall on Main Road. The project, estimated to cost ₹630.53 crore, will be developed over 4.6 acres and is planned to include multiple basement levels, lower ground and ground floors, along with upper floors extending up to 11 storeys.
The New Market near Ratu Road Chowk is also proposed for redevelopment at an estimated cost of ₹180 crore. The project will cover around 2.05 acres and include basement, lower ground, ground and additional floors.
A new market complex has also been proposed on CIP Road in Kanke. The project is estimated to cost around ₹95 crore and will be developed over approximately 2.14 acres, with two basements, lower ground, ground and five upper floors planned.
Bus terminals to be upgradedThe infrastructure plan includes redevelopment and beautification of three major bus terminals.
The ITI Bus Terminal, spread over about 2.17 acres, is proposed to be upgraded at an estimated cost of ₹23.88 crore. The Government Bus Stand, covering around 2.28 acres, is slated for redevelopment at an estimated ₹20.74 crore.
The process of obtaining necessary no-objection certificates for the two projects is underway.
The Birsa Munda Bus Terminal at Khadgarha is also proposed to undergo beautification, with around ₹3.75 crore earmarked for the work.
The proposed upgrades are aimed at improving passenger facilities and making bus terminals more organised and functional.
₹440-crore corporate office in Dhurwa
A greenfield project for a Jharkhand Corporate Office Building has been proposed in the Dhurwa HEC area at an estimated cost of around ₹440 crore.
The project is currently at the design stage and is proposed on approximately 9.17 acres. The building is planned to have two basement levels, a ground floor and six upper floors.
The proposed office complex is intended to consolidate government-related office infrastructure in a planned urban area and form part of the broader development of Dhurwa.
Interstate bus terminal at Dubaliya
Another major project is the proposed interstate bus terminal at Dubaliya, which has received technical approval.
The project has an estimated cost of ₹400.42 crore, including ₹96.68 crore for the bus terminal and ₹303.74 crore for an associated commercial complex.
The development is planned over approximately 33.51 acres. The proposed terminal and commercial facilities are expected to create a larger transport hub for interstate passengers while supporting commercial activity in the surrounding area.
The combined projects are part of a broader effort to modernise Ranchi’s commercial and transport infrastructure and address the city’s growing urban requirements.
If implemented, the proposed developments would bring significant changes to several established market areas, bus terminals and government office zones, with the stated objectives of improving passenger amenities, organising commercial spaces and making better use of urban land.
