Ranchi, Sep 21: Jharkhand is likely to experience widespread rainfall over the next few days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy to very heavy showers in several districts, particularly around September 23 and 24.The weather activity is associated with a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal.
The system is expected to move west-northwestwards and strengthen, increasing rainfall activity over Jharkhand.According to the Ranchi Meteorological Centre, the most significant spell of rainfall is expected around September 24.
The IMD’s state warning bulletin has forecast heavy rainfall on September 23, very heavy rainfall on September 24 and further heavy rainfall warnings for September 25 and 26.On September 23, heavy rainfall is likely in districts including Lohardaga, Gumla, Simdega, Ramgarh, Ranchi, Khunti, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Saraikela-Kharsawan, East Singhbhum and West Singhbhum.
The weather department has also warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall on September 24 in several districts, including Gumla, Simdega, Ranchi, Khunti, West Singhbhum, Latehar, Lohardaga, Ramgarh, Hazaribag, Koderma, Giridih, Bokaro, Dhanbad and Saraikela-Kharsawan.
The IMD has advised people to remain alert during periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms and to follow local weather advisories.Despite the expected spell of rain, Jharkhand has recorded a rainfall deficit during the monsoon season so far. From June 1 to September 21, the state received around 891 mm of rainfall against the normal 962.4 mm.
Eleven of the state’s 24 districts were reported to be facing rainfall deficits. Pakur recorded the highest deficit at 51 per cent, followed by Chatra at 37 per cent and Dhanbad at 34 per cent.
The IMD has forecast continued rainfall activity in Jharkhand through September 26 as the weather system over the Bay of Bengal influences conditions across the state.
