Heavy rain, thunderstorms forecast across several states on Monday

New Delhi, Sept 13: Several parts of the country, including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Jharkhand and West Bengal, are likely to receive heavy rainfall on Monday, while strong winds accompanied by thunderstorms are expected in parts of southern India, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The weather office has forecast rain and thunderstorms in western Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Bihar, Sikkim and Odisha during September 14-15. Heavy rainfall is also likely at isolated places in several northeastern states, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

Strong Winds in Southern States

Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Mahe are likely to experience heavy rain on September 14 and 15, with thunderstorms and lightning at some places. Winds of 40-50 kmph, occasionally reaching 60 kmph, are possible during the period.

Telangana may witness strong winds of 30-40 kmph on September 14-15. Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are expected to receive light rainfall at various places during September 13-19.

Rain Forecast for North India

Light rain is possible in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Punjab on September 14. Isolated heavy rainfall is also likely over eastern Rajasthan.

The IMD has further forecast rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan and Muzaffarabad between September 15 and 17.

Yellow Alert in Odisha

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in five Odisha districts — Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, Koraput and Gajapati — for Monday.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also likely in several districts, including Balasore, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda and Nayagarh.The weather department has indicated that unsettled conditions are likely to continue in Odisha until September 17.

Delhi-NCR May Get Light Rain

Delhi and adjoining areas are likely to remain cloudy on Monday, with intermittent light rainfall and the possibility of thunderstorms. Rain may occur during the morning and another spell could develop in the afternoon.

Several states, including West Bengal, Maharashtra and Gujarat, received heavy rainfall on Sunday, leading to waterlogging in parts of some cities. In Kolkata, rainfall disrupted movement and shopping activity in several busy market areas.

The IMD has advised people in areas likely to experience thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds to remain alert and follow local weather advisories.
