Patna, Aug 24: An Air India flight from Delhi to Patna carrying 164 passengers suffered a suspected bird strike while approaching the airport here on Monday, but landed safely and all passengers were reported safe, an airport official said.The incident involving Air India flight AI 1741 occurred at around 7:44 a.m.
as the aircraft was preparing to land at Patna airport.The pilot alerted airport authorities after reporting a suspected bird strike, following which the aircraft completed its landing.As a precautionary measure, airport authorities conducted an inspection of the runway after the aircraft landed.
Officials checked the area to ensure there was no debris or other obstruction that could pose a risk to subsequent flight operations.”There was no disruption of flight operations at the airport due to the incident,” the airport official said.
All 164 passengers on board the Delhi-Patna flight were safe, the official added.Bird strikes are a recognised aviation safety concern, particularly during take-off and landing, when aircraft operate at relatively low altitudes.
Airports routinely undertake measures to minimise bird activity around runways and other operational areas.The incident did not result in any reported injuries or major disruption to flight operations at Patna airport.
