Ranchi, August 15: Police have arrested a man for allegedly threatening Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren during a protest by students and job aspirants over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations, officials said on Saturday.The accused was identified as Vishwajeet Kumar, a resident of Bokaro district, according to police.
The alleged incident took place at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium, where candidates have been protesting against irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC).Police said Kumar allegedly made objectionable remarks against Soren and issued a death threat while addressing or interacting with protesters.
A complaint was subsequently lodged at Kotwali police station, following which police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and arrested the accused.Kotwali police station in-charge Sanoj Chaudhary said the accused was booked on allegations of making provocative remarks, attempting to incite protesters and threatening the Chief Minister.
The arrest comes amid a continuing agitation by students and government-job aspirants seeking greater transparency and reforms in the state’s recruitment examination system.The protesters have raised allegations concerning various recruitment examinations and have been demanding accountability and corrective measures from the authorities.
Police action against the accused relates to the alleged threat and remarks attributed to him and does not imply that the entire student protest movement was involved in the incident.The allegations against Kumar are yet to be established in court, and the investigation into the matter is underway.
