Dhanbad, Aug 9: The Dhanbad Municipal Corporation has approved development proposals worth ₹141.82 crore under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), with the projects aimed at improving civic amenities, sanitation, roads, drainage and urban infrastructure across the city.
The decisions were taken at a crucial municipal board meeting chaired by Mayor Sanjeev Singh. Municipal Commissioner Ashish Gangwar conducted the proceedings, while Deputy Mayor Arun Chauhan was also present.
The board decided to discontinue the existing Quick Response Team (QRT) for sanitation after August 15. In its place, 15 dedicated sanitation workers will be deployed in each of the corporation’s 55 wards to strengthen routine cleaning, monitoring and management of sanitation services.
The move follows demands from councillors and growing dissatisfaction over the existing sanitation system. The board said the new arrangement would strengthen cleanliness operations at the ground level.
As part of the development push, five schemes each for all 55 wards — a total of 275 schemes — were approved to improve basic civic amenities and accelerate development works.
“The proposals, estimated at ₹141.82 crore under the NCAP, will be sent to the department for administrative approval,” the board said.
The corporation also approved a proposal to install and replace around 3,000 LED streetlights, including poles, at an estimated cost of ₹2 crore. The initiative is aimed at improving lighting in areas facing inadequate illumination.
Around ₹2 crore was approved for the cleaning and beautification of ponds, while funds were also sanctioned for the renovation of wells and related civic amenities.
The board also discussed measures to address the city’s recurring waterlogging problem. It deliberated on increasing the water-holding capacity of Barmasiya pond and improving the drainage network as part of a long-term solution.
Road infrastructure will also receive a major boost under the NCAP and Clean Air Fund. Proposals for paver-block installation and construction or renovation of bituminous roads were approved for several parts of the city, including Katras, Sijua, Godhar, Putki and Rajganj.
In another key decision, all councillors were empowered to issue satisfaction certificates after the completion of development works in their respective areas.
“Five schemes each from all 55 wards were approved,” officials said.
The proposals put forward by the councillors were unanimously approved during the meeting, reflecting the civic body’s focus on strengthening basic services and urban infrastructure.
The corporation said the shift from the QRT model to dedicated ward-level sanitation workers is expected to improve accountability and ensure more effective monitoring of cleanliness across Dhanbad.
