New Delhi, Feb 13: Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Textiles and Commerce & Industry Piyush Goyal has called for the integration of modern technologies in the foodgrain management sector. During a review of the operations of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) in the Uttar Pradesh region, Goyal emphasized the importance of using advanced technology to improve transparency and minimize human intervention.

Goyal encouraged all FCI officers to use their expertise and suggest ways to make the organization more efficient and modern. He also directed the officers to design more effective godowns to maximize storage capacity in limited land areas. The minister emphasized the need for more procurement centers to provide farmers with more options for selling their produce to FCI or other agencies.

In an effort to control market prices, Goyal advised that more wheat should be offered under the Open Market Sale Scheme. He also called for upgrading all FCI godowns to the highest standard, and for those of poor quality to be repaired or de-hired.

Goyal appreciated the use of the E-POP machine at procurement centers in Uttar Pradesh and suggested that the system should be implemented in other states to bring more transparency to the procurement process. With the increasing demand, population, and vast geographic area of Uttar Pradesh, the Minister’s push for modern technologies in foodgrain management is a significant step towards improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the sector, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution said in a statement.
