Jodhpur, 22 Feb : In a tragic incident, two sisters were found dead in Manai village of Rajasthan’s Jodhpur district just hours before their weddings were scheduled to take place, police said.
The deceased, Shobha (25) and Vimla (23), daughters of Deep Singh, were working as teachers at a private school. Wedding preparations were in full swing at their home, with celebrations continuing late into Friday night.
According to police, the sisters went to their room around midnight after the festivities. “At about 4 am, their health suddenly deteriorated, prompting family members to take them to a private hospital. They were declared dead on arrival,” said ADCP (West) Roshan Meena.
The bodies were brought back home, and the family initially began preparations for the last rites. However, police reached the spot around 6 am after receiving information and halted the cremation. The bodies were subsequently sent to the MGH mortuary for post-mortem examination.
Police said preliminary investigations suggest the sisters may have consumed a poisonous substance. No suicide note has been recovered so far.
“Preliminary investigations suggest that the sisters may have died after consuming a poisonous substance; however, the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem report is completed,” an official said.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community as investigations continue to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to their deaths.
