Thalassery (Kerala), Jan 3: A short video showcasing the spotless platform of Thalassery railway station in Kerala has gone viral on social media drawing widespread praise for the state’s civic sense and public hygiene.

The clip, shared on Instagram by digital creator Mubeena Ch, was filmed from inside a slowly moving train. As the train passes through the station, the camera captures a continuous, unobstructed view of the platform, revealing shining floors and an absence of litter, waste or clutter.

The video carries the on-screen text, “Not a single piece of trash in the station,” while Mubeena adds a light-hearted note in the caption: “And no one robbed my phone while shooting this video.” The post quickly caught the attention of netizens, many of whom said the cleanliness was striking because the footage was shot in motion rather than as a carefully framed still image.

From pillars and signboards to benches, waiting areas, entry points and stalls, the station appears well-maintained and organised. Dustbins are seen placed at regular intervals, while passengers move calmly across the platform without chaos or crowding, contributing to a peaceful early-morning atmosphere.

Social media users were quick to applaud Kerala’s focus on cleanliness, with several pointing out that such scenes are common across railway stations in the state. Many credited the combined efforts of cleaning staff and responsible public behaviour.

“Let the civic sense stay there, the cleaning staff are doing their job very well,” one user commented. Another wrote, “It’s not only government responsibility… it’s everyone’s responsibility.”

Some users also highlighted systemic factors, noting that chewing tobacco products such as gutka and Vimal are banned in Kerala, which helps keep public spaces cleaner. “I have travelled across India, but railway stations in Kerala feel much cleaner compared to those in the North. It’s actually a combination of civic sense and system-level management,” a netizen remarked.

The station featured in the video was identified by users as Thalassery in Kannur district, with several asserting that such levels of cleanliness are “quite normal in Kerala.”
